Club History

Welcome to Maryborough Football Netball Club

The Maryborough Football Club was spawned in 1872, turned into the Maryborough League Football Club in the 1920’s, the Maryborough Football Club from the 1930’s and the Maryborough Football Netball Club as it is known now, since 1990’s.

The club has faced adversity many times over its journey and continues to survive.

There are seven football sides and four netball sides that provide an opportunity for around 180 young boys, girls, men and women to represent Maryborough at an elite level throughout the Bendigo and Central Victoria Region.

That is an opportunity that should never be lost, thanks go to all those valued volunteers who donate their time and effort, all the business people providing Sponsorship funds and all of our members for their support. We urge them all to continue with their collective efforts. Without you it is not possible to function.

In 1990’s as a condition of entry for the Football club to be accepted in the Bendigo Football Netball League, the Maryborough Football Club had to find two netball teams. A small band of women already connected to the club attended league meetings to learn of the requirements of entry. Two teams would be needed, A and B grade. Thanks to the efforts of supporters a netball club within the football club was born. Players were generally recruited from amongst the girlfriends, partners and supporters of the football teams. As the netball competition expanded with extra grades, Maryborough would need to recruit more girls to battle against, trying to persuade local girls from the local pool of netball talent to sign up and test themselves against the best Bendigo had to offer.
